These tents could certainly be taken in a pack into the backcountry, but are generally designed for "car-camping" where weight and size are not an issue. These tents are from Alps Mountaineering and Kelty, are made of heavy duty materials and offer excellent shelter from wind and rain. These tents are much better quality than the cheapies you might find at a sporting goods store and at many other rental outlets.
These are free-standing tents, which means that no stakes are required to setup, although they are provided if you want additional security against wind.
We usually recommend one less person than the rated capacity so you have a little extra room for your personal stuff - no more than 3 people in a 4-person tent, for example. Four adults about 6' tall will fit if needed.
If weight and size are of concern, you would be better off with one of our backpacking models. Don't hesitate to call us if you have any questions!
